Lucy Lyons has taken up a two year Postdoctoral position at the University of Copenhagen.

Lucy Lyons will be on a two year sabbatical from C&G of London Art School but will continue as a visiting lecturer until she returns in 2011.

She has taken up a Postdoctoral position at the University of Copenhagen entitled ‘Communicative barriers between biomedical research and everyday health care in a museum context’

This project aims to develop the understanding of the means through which esoteric biomedical and medico-technological knowledge and practices can be communicated to lay people in a museum exhibition context, with special emphasis on the use of material and visual cultural practices.

Lucy’s research will involve examining and presenting information about the artefacts in a medical museum collection at the University of Copenhagen by using drawing as a tool for inquiry. Building on her PhD and previous research at the Gulbenkien Institute of Science in Lisbon, she will involve members of the public, medical professionals, students, and patient groups in workshops drawing objects in the museum. Her research will be published in forthcoming journals and exhibitions.

Medical Museion at the University of Copenhagen is an integrated research and museum institution that focuses on the public engagement with the contemporary biomedical sciences.
