Christopher Reid wins the 2010 Costa Prize
The School would like to congratulate poet Christopher Reid, who recently won the 2010 Costa Prize for "The Scattering"
For several years, Christopher was a part-time member of the Humanities Staff working with the School’s MA students. Prior to working here, he had been for many years, the poetry editor at Faber and Faber where he was editor to Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney, Derek Walcott and many others. He worked at the Crafts Council briefly in the 70s, ran the poetry workshop at Morley College for several years, and most recently (2007-9), was Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Hull. He has won numerous awards for his poetry and his selected poems Mermaids Explained was published by Farrar Strauss & Giroux in the US several years ago. It was through Christopher Reid, that Helen Wilks, the School’s Head of Humanities, first met many distinguished poets including Christopher Logue, August Kleinzahler and George Szirtes, all of whom have had an association with the School and have done readings here over the last ten years.
