Lime Conservation


Tutor on the Conservation Studies course. Specialism: Lime and its uses in conservation today. Course includes fresco, lime repairs to stone and free-hand modelling.

Panel member for the review and re-validation of the BA (Hons) Conservation Studies course at the City and Guilds of London Art School.

Attended meetings of sub-committee for the conservation of the Westminster Retable.

Established Schärer Conservation 2003:
2007 Cynwyd War Memorial: Cleaning, minor repairs and lettering.
2007 St Hywyn Church Aberdaron: Repairs to the Norman doorway and South wall windows.
2007 CADW, Llancwyfan Church. main contractor: removal of cement from the outside of the church and archaeological survey of the 12th century and 15th century stonework. New lime pointing and limewash. New stained leaded windows and internal lime repairs.
2006 CADW, St Hywyn Church, Aberdaron: re-positioning mediaeval stone font and repair of 17th century wall plaque.
2006 St Gwyddelan Lychgate, Dolwyddelan, main contractor: extensive repairs and re-construction of Victorian oak Lychgate, after it was demolished by a lorry.
2003–2006 The Cosmati Sanctuary Pavement, Westminster Abbey: the investigative phase of this ongoing conservation project.
2005 Friends of Friendless Churches / Tim Ratcliffe Associates: Tal-y-Llyn Church, Anglese. Internal plasterwork, limewashing and repairs to roof.
2005 Mowlem / Adam & Francis Voelcker Architects: Ty-Newydd, Llanystumdwy. New lime plasterwork, repairs and conservation of decorative plasterwork.
2005 Friends of Friendless Churches / Tim Ratcliffe Associates: Llanfaglan Church. External pointing, internal decoration and conservation of early Christian carved headstones.
2005 Sapcotes / Donald Insall Associates: Molineux Hotel, Wolverhampton. Re-modelling section of Rococo plasterwork.
2005 St Michael’s Church, Betws-y-coed: investigation of wall paintings.
2005 Bodwrog Church, Anglesea: repair and renewal of the traditional torching.
2004 St Michael’s Church, Betws-y-coed: main contractor for the 2nd phase of restoration: internal lath and plasterwork, external pointing and joinery.
2003 Plas Newydd, Anglesey, The National Trust: re-laying and re-gilding a section of damaged cornice.
2003 The Landmark Trust/Rodney Melville and Partners: conservation and reconstruction of a medieval plaster wall frieze, West Banqueting Hall, Chipping Campden.
