After working for several years as a free-lance writer and scholar, he worked as a senior historian at English Heritage for three years. He has published widely in scholarly journals, Country Life Magazine and written several guidebooks for English Heritage and the National Trust. At present he is completing his second book, a survey of English Castle Architecture from 1066-1650. John Goodall is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and sits on the Fabric Advisory Committee of St George’s, Windsor.
