"Laura Clarke’s work explores how the subconscious is brought to the fore, concerning herself with the uncanny and the departure from the human being in images and scultures of morphological creatures and beastialities." David Marchant 2011

The theatrical imagery has erotic and fantastical overtones; surreal and ambiguous in their strangeness. Her current still imagery allows the viewer to think about the nature of the spectacle as much as its representation: a humerous but repulsing cast of dysfunctional transgender characters unlocking forbidden desires and fears and awakening childhood transgressions.

In her tableaux type films we find ourselves in a waking world, a world between real and fantasy, between being and becoming, innocence and experience. Occupying a middle ground between the states, poised on the threshold rich with longing.

Laura lives and works in South London with her two cats, Beaux and Moreau.
