Since Tom Brown (30) graduated with a distinction in stonemasonry carving and letter cutting from Weymouth College in 2002, he has become a traditional "Journeyman", travelling around the country working with major stone firms and conservation workshops on many prestigious projects including a 15th century Florentine monument in the V&A's Renaissance gallery, Old Gorhambury House with English Heritage, the Victoria and Albert memorial and Cannonbury Tower in London, he has also worked on restoration projects in France and Guernsey.He then returned to study Historic Stone Carving at the City & Guilds of London Art School where he graduated in 2009 with a 1st from the three year diploma.He is regularly sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Masons to promote the art of stone carving and masonry, and promotes his craft through public carving displays at various events.His work was recognised in 2008 when he was awarded the QEST scholarshipTom is passionate and dedicated to his work and takes pride in producing work to the highest standard in architectural, sculptural and ornamental stone carving. He also aims to do his part in caring for the buildings, existing monuments and sculptures which form Britain’s great built heritage.By applying skilled, considerate and knowledgeable treatment, he hopes to keep the ancient, traditional and highly skilled craft of working stone alive.
