I believe that, through the act of living, the discovery of oneself is made concurrently with discovery of the world around us, which can mould us, but which can also be affected by us. A balance must be established between these two worlds - the one inside us and the one outside us. As the result of a constant reciprocal process, both these worlds come to form a single one. And it is this world that we must communicate. Cartier Bresson (1952)

My practice is concerned with the creation of fragmented urban landscapes which reflect an exploration of the interaction between the interior psychological world of the individual and the exterior physical world which surrounds him and the effect that one has upon the other. The constantly shifting dialogue between these two worlds provokes interesting speculation concerning the roles that time and memory, and our individual belief systems play in our relationship with the environment. Set in an imaginary cityscape of juxtaposed images and distorted perspective which nevertheless form a coherent sense of place, the idea that informs my work is based on the premise that our view and consequent reaction to a place is influenced by our state of mind and that we see our surroundings through a filter of dreams, beliefs and experience whilst simultaneously acknowledging the physical constraints and spatial relationships of the existing environment.
