One of the inspirations I had was the poem by Ovid’s ‘Metamorphosis’, in which, human forms constantly shapeshift into other entities, suggesting a new potentiality of being.
In this world we are living in, nothing ever stays the same, we are in the world of flux, where everything is constantly shapeshifting. I became interested in the idea of shapeshifting as the way to open up the unknown space that is full of potentiality as an opposed idea of the psychoanalysis Freud and Lacan coined, which is based on the binary idea of ‘conscious’ and ‘unconscious’, or ‘whole’ and ‘lack’, which still dominates the world of art.

French Philosopher Giles Deleuze’ coinage: ‘becoming’ and ‘rhizome’ were amongst other inspirations for the idea, which is a model of thinking as an ever expanding labyrinth without a centre, capable of either opening up or closing down. Although Deleuze’s idea leads to the extreme emergence which exclude others, blurring the boundaries of identities, into the singular entity of immanence, I have interested in the process of our identities becoming blurred and multiple, before we become a singular existence, where there is no others, no other countries, and no kingdoms.

With Deleuze’s theories and through Japanese aesthetic called ‘Wabi-Sabi’, which is centred on acceptance of transience, it is the beauty of impermanence, imperfection, and incompletion, the beauty of realising that everything goes back to nature, constantly changing into the universal nothingness with full of potential elements, my ultimate goal is to create a bridge in two opposing entities-which can be a human race, sexuality, ideas such as life and death, blurring the borderlines in dichotomy, or even in multiplicities.

With my work, I would like to evoke the awareness or recognition to open up the potentiality to become a new entity as a whole, the potentiality to embrace the differences, rather than dismissing the differences as demonic, but to emerge as one.
