Carla Groppi

There is a process which starts with picture postcards showing the idyllic view and develops through many drawings before I begin painting. When drawing, I am more concerned with mark making and evoking certain moods which are linked to memory and the poetic, rather than the literal.
These large scale paintings demand a direct and physical approach and a mental preparation that I associate with my practice of  Tai Chi Chuan. My small scale drawings are of a more intimate nature.
Artists that have influenced me are Monet, Cy Twombly, Turner, Cezanne and Peter Doig.
