This circus series stems from a research trip made to the Edinburgh Festival in August 2008. Initially many of the characters I depicted were based on performers encountered on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. To begin with the work dabbled with the threshold between the believable and the bizarre, but has increasingly strayed from the everyday further into the world of the imagined and strange. The current series retains only the more realistic eyes of my former characters; everything else is distorted and saturated in colour.
