I have come to think of what I am trying to show about a person in these paintings as their stain. What is left behind when all defining characteristics have been removed.Through a process of application and removal using watercolour on canvas I am distorting the image of a person with water to suggest the disintegration of a consistent identity, and also the fragility of identity itself. I am interested in the multi faceted nature of ones self and work from images of people I feel are displaying this.I want the viewer to feel the presence of something human, the feeling that someone was once there and has been removed to leave just a trace of themselves.
