The City & Guilds of London Art School is seeking applications for an IT technician to work 2 days per week (0.4) initially on a six month contract.  The post holder will work with our IT Manager to provide 1st and 2nd line support for our staff and student community. They will also at times work alongside our Digital Media Technician.



City & Guilds of London Art School is a unique, small-scale, ‘not for profit’ Higher Education provider, offering specialist courses at Postgraduate, Undergraduate and Foundation levels. The Art School charity has a mission to foster excellence in contemporary Fine Art, Historic Carving and Conservation of cultural artefacts. We have a focus on skills-based teaching and a commitment to cultivate knowledge and curiosity in both the historical and contemporary contexts of our subjects, and we provide our c 250 students with high levels of contact time with artist tutors and active professionals as well as the space and facilities to flourish. Applicants should be educated to degree level or equivalent and bring recent IT technical experience in a similar role. You will have strong organisational skills, be a good problem solver, with a strong work ethic and the ability to maintain attention to detail and to handle a varied workload. While there are specific areas of expertise we are looking for, the ability and willingness to seek out IT solutions that can work for our scale is something we will value.

You will have administrative experience with OSX, Windows server and desktop environments, Linux server and desktop environments. Knowledge of a scripting language (Bash scripts, Perl, Python, Powershell etc.) would be welcomed.  Additionally working knowledge of Telecoms (Voip), CCTV systems, Access Control Systems, Printer hardware and management, Level 2 and upward networking hardware, and basic hardware repair skills will be useful. Experience with some or all of the following platforms and applications would be highly desirable:

– Active Directory

– Adobe Creative Cloud

– MS Office / MS365

– Moodle

– Mahara

– Bigbluebutton

– WordPress

– Cividb (on a WordPress platform)

– Papercut MF

We would welcome experience with audio-visual equipment, particularly as regards its use in an art gallery/art exhibition environment.  



The post is initially a 6 month contract for 2 days per week, with some flexibility. This is a new post at the Art School and its effectiveness will be reviewed with plans at this stage to establish a permanent post. The main purposes of the post are:

– to work with the IT Manager to provide 1stand 2nd line support for students and staff across a range of IT resources.
– to support the IT Manager to maintain the security and functionality of systems.
