City & Guilds of London Art School is seeking applications for a 1 to 2 year Artist Woodwork Fellowship. The successful applicant will have a recent undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in Fine Art or Sculpture, or equivalent experience, and demonstrate a commitment to 3D contemporary art practice that utilises wood or woodworking-based practices. The Wood Workshop is a dynamic learning space where students from across the Art School’s courses are introduced to and taught processes involved in making and constructing with wood. The post offers a unique opportunity for an artist to develop their own practice in the context of the Art School’s Wood Workshop, working alongside artists and technicians David MacDiarmid and Ana Kazaroff.

The Fellowship recipient’s responsibilities will include:
• Being available in the Wood Workshop on average 1 day per week during term time
• Participating in the support and supervision of students under the direction of the Workshop technician
• Working within the Health and Safety protocols and guidelines of the Art School in general and the Wood Workshop in particular.

In return the successful applicant will receive:
• Access to the Wood Workshop throughout the week to pursue their own practice
• Training and experience in advanced technical aspects of woodwork, benefitting the applicant’s artistic practice and technical abilities
• Experience of student supervision within a small scale supportive Art School environment
• Knowledge and experience of safe working practices
• An exhibition space and promotion as part of the MA and Fellows’ Fine Art Show at the Art School in September 2024/25
