Julia Peintner

Julia Peintner works in painting and printmaking. Drawing forms an intrinsic part of her practice in both her prints and paintings on paper. Working from her own photography, image archives and art historical references, her work is concerned with interpersonal dynamics and anxieties and discomforts of the modern condition.

Through intimate portrayals of bodily states, belonging and the experiences of adolescence and womanhood, her images offer a window into the complexities of everyday existence.

After graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2015 Peintner went on to work professionally as a printmaker for Blackbird Editions.

Before becoming a print fellow at City and Guilds of London Art School, her printmaking practice consisted of relief printmaking such as handprinted wood- and linocuts but is currently focused on intaglio printmaking.

Since being a resident at Studio Kura residency in Japan in 2015 and 2017, she is also working in Japanese woodcut.

Julia Peintner lives and works in London, UK. Peintner graduated from Central Saint Martins and London’s Royal Drawing School. Residencies include Dumfries House in 2023, Borgo Pingnano, Pisa, Italy in 2022, Studio Kura, Fukuoka, Japan in 2015 and 2017.
