This week and next our new first years are aiming to finish carved object in stone. The object should be a good representation of the original cast, though it is not expected to be an exact copy – it should have its own character and the individual marks of the maker. This module is designed to introduce students to the basic techniques of carving a three-dimensional object in stone. Using a supplied cast, accurate plan drawings are made on a grid and the drawing is transferred to a piece of supplied limestone with carbon paper.
