We are delighted to announce that BA (Hons) Fine Art alumnus Dexter Landesman-Chung has been selected for the Freelands Foundation Painting Prize 2026 exhibition, which opens today, Wednesday 7 October.

Dexter is exhibiting his painting ‘Padfoot, welcome home’ (2025) as part of the exhibition, which celebrates outstanding painting by final-year undergraduate artists from art schools and universities across the UK. His work will be shown alongside paintings by 11 other shortlisted artists.

The Freelands Foundation Painting Prize recognises emerging talent in contemporary painting and provides a platform for artists at the beginning of their professional careers to showcase their work to a wider audience.

Speaking about ‘Padfoot, welcome home’, Dexter said:

“With every painting I have produced this year, since returning home to the East Midlands, a spirit representing my sense of displacement between city and countryside seems to lurk beneath the surface, creeping from the subconscious into the work. The spirit depicted here is a black greyhound, inspired by a photograph of my friend’s dog, Lulu.”

The exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to discover the work of 12 emerging painters from across the UK and celebrate the breadth and ambition of contemporary painting being produced by the next generation of artists.

The Freelands Foundation Painting Prize 2026 exhibition runs from 7–31 October 2026 at the Freelands Foundation in London. Admission is free.
