SHORT COURSE OVERVIEW

Over the course of 5 days, this experimental drawing course will broaden your drawing skills through exploring various drawing processes, materials, and techniques from traditional methods to print and collage processes. By the end, you will have a deeper understanding of drawing and the artistic skills to work independently.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course consists of 4 sessions over 5 days: Drawing Tone and Line, Drawing Print, Drawing Collage, and Drawing Experiments (2 days). Each session will lead you through a series of drawing exercises aimed at enhancing technical skills and encouraging creative thinking in visual representation of subject matter.

You will be encouraged to experiment with various drawing mediums, using tone and line to explore different ways of depicting depth and shade, as well as engaging in hands-on experiences such as mark making, monoprint, and collage processes. You will have a selection of your own studies and artworks that reflect the techniques, process, and materials you have examined, along with new artmaking skills that you can practise and further develop at home. The final achievement of this course will be your chosen form of experimental drawings, ranging from a large-scale artwork to an artist book, using techniques and resources that you have tested throughout the course.

This course is designed for anyone who seek to challenge their conventional drawing approaches and for those who are intrigued by the expanded realm of drawing. It is accessible for beginners and all levels, and requires no prior knowledge. Materials that you will use in the process are, but are not limited to, brushes, thread, wire, tape, tissues, rubber, graphite, charcoal, photographs, pastels, watercolour, and other materials of your choice.

What is included: Essential materials are provided. Participants are recommended to bring supplementary items, such as pastels, coloured pencils, and acrylics.

What is not included: Please bring your sketchbook and images (drawings, photographs, objects, magazines, postcards, etc.) for ideas and inspiration. An apron and any materials you want to explore for your drawing practice.
