On the Graduate Diploma Arts: Carving course, we will work with you to create your individual study programme  which will take into consideration your existing knowledge and skill-set. You will learn through a combination of workshops, lectures and projects delivered by the carving undergraduate programme tutors. You will be working within the vibrant community of the Art School amongst undergraduate and postgraduate students with our team of practising artists, craft specialists, historians and conservation experts, and you’ll benefit from use of our specialist facilities.

We provide a high level of staff contact time so that you will receive the intensive tuition and individual attention that we believe historic carving requires. All our tutors are active professionals and experts in their subjects, so you can be assured that you’ll be receiving an outstanding level of support.

We have excellent links with the industry, both through the Art School’s numerous collaborations and through our tutors’ own professional networks. Our alumni are sought-after for commissioned work and positions in the heritage industry, and many of our students go on to work in historic carving projects in Britain and abroad.

We prioritise skill-based teaching and cultivate knowledge and curiosity in the historical and contemporary contexts of our subjects. The relationships between tradition and innovation and the interaction between the different subjects provide important insights and this is supported through the shared study centres of Drawing and Art Histories.

Places on the course are limited due to the Art School’s small scale and are only offered where there is sufficient evidence that you may achieve postgraduate level entry requirements on successful completion of the one-year course.

You can find more details about the course in the Course Handbook and all the information about applying is available on the How To Apply page.
