The City & Guilds of London Art School has a very long and deep history of teaching ornamental woodcarving, with the standard of our diploma courses recognised as being equivalent to degree level through our external examiner reports and the accolades, prizes and commissions our students and graduates have won. We are delighted to have now converted the diploma courses into degree courses.

Woodcarving degree course

The Woodcarving & Gilding Pathway of our new BA (Hons) Historic Carving qualification builds upon our expertise and is a comprehensive, three-year woodcarving course that will prepare you for a fulfilling career in architectural heritage as a professional woodcarver.

Whether your ambition is to create new work in historic contexts or to restore sculpture and ornament, your aesthetic and historical knowledge will be as important as your manual woodcarving skills. On this advanced carving course, you’ll develop this wide range of skills and will graduate fully equipped to begin a successful career.

The two-year Diploma in Higher Education Historic Carving: Woodcarving & Gilding, covers the same specialist syllabus as the first two years of the BA (Hons) programme. This provides a good alternative option if you would prefer to study for a shorter period or want to enhance existing skills and knowledge. Find out more about the Diploma in Higher Education on an open day or email us at admissions@cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk
