Position Vacant: Historic Carving Technician

The Art School is seeking a part-time Technician for its thriving Historic Carving Department. Working 3 days per week during term time, you will assist the Head Tutors for Stone and Wood carving in the day-to-day running of the workshops , studios and facilities. As, ideally, a qualified carver or a practitioner with relevant experience of working in a studio environment you will provide technical support for the Diploma and Post-Graduate courses. Responsibilities will include mentoring students in the use of tools and materials; providing support for teaching and project activity; and studio organisation and maintenance. You will also work with the Art School’s Site Manager to ensure that Health & Safety regulations and practices within the Carving Department are implemented and monitored.

The Art School is committed to high levels of contact time with expert professionals and access to a wide range of specialist resources. This means that besides access to the Carving facilities students are also supported by the wider technical team with workshops for wood, metalwork, casting, glass and print among other resources. You will therefore be a valued member of both the Historic Carving Department and the Art School’s wider technical team.
