Fine Art

Preoccupied with the process of working in wood, my work explores the power of objects and artefacts, the aesthetic pleasure of wood, and the sensuality of layered, refined surfaces.

Working in birch plywood, I enjoy reconstructing the reconstructed wood. Plywood is a wood rendered inert by the manufacturing process. By shaping the ply and working into the surface, I give it volume and form.

Long sensual curves, hooks, cavities and three metres high amphorae vessels evoke the organic and the man-made. The sculptures lean against walls and rest on the floor. The work is pared down to a weightless, elegant economy of form, inspired by shapes and forms visible in the landscape and in natural geological patterns.
