Roberto Cavallini



Roberto is an art historian and independent curator interested in contemporary art history and theory, museum studies and the relationship between tradition and innovation. He is currently working on the notion of critical inheritance in the works of Pier Paolo Pasolini.

Roberto Cavallini (b. 1980) studied Art History and Conservation of Artistic Heritages (BA and MA) at Cà Foscari University of Venice (1999-2005). From 2002 and 2005 he has been a Docent at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy. In September 2005 he moved to London to start a PhD in Art History and Philosophy at the Department of Visual Cultures, Goldsmiths, University of London. His work as curator and other artistic collaborations have took place and exhibited in Venice, Bologna, Valencia, New York, Istanbul and Damascus. Since September 2007 he is coordinator of InC - Research Group in Continental Philosophy, based at the Graduate School, Goldsmiths, University of London.

Art Projects and Exhibitions

  • 2008, October. Reloading Images Damascus 2008: an interdisciplinary artistic research platform. Selected and invited as an International participant in Damascus, Syria for one month of workshops and artistic collaborations.
  • 2008 In.Sight.Out, video art exhibition, Giardino del Guasto, Bologna, Italy. Curator of 'Fuori Programma/Special Guest' and organizer.
  • 2007 Leaving Room | Instanbul at The Apartment Project, Sehbender sok. Nr: 4 Tunel-Beyoglu, 80 030, Istanbul.
  • 2007 Leaving Room | Venice. In collaboration with Cà Foscari University of Venice. 'Leaving Room' is a project focused on the phenomenon of migration in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • 2007 Mal di Mare (Sea Sickness) presented at the Waste Art Biennial, Castellon de la plana, Spain.
  • 2006 Curator of the group exhibition Site/Insight at A+A Gallery, Venice, Italy (8-22 of May 2006).
  • 2005 October-present Founder and member of BIS, research and visual practice. London.
