I am often inspired by my brush marks which remind me of some landscapes within my memory and try to control the accident in my work. So far, my painting resides between abstraction and objectivity. After finishing painting I wish to evoke people's recognition that the scenery or some object in the space is not abstract, or that they might 'hear' some sound.
The aim of my painting now is to create metaphor, not simile. I paint the subject matter with a sense of 'feeling'.
I love the word 'epic'. What does this mean for me?
When standing on the middle of bridge, the sky continues endlessly above me and buildings along the river go farther from my view point.
The 'epic' landscape painting suggests the notion beyond the sight, which resides in the unknown and infinite space. I want to call it 'black hole' painting in-between reality and fantasy. Both of them settle in the same world in my painting.
I am from Japan but was not aware of being Japanese artist who possesses Japanese sense. But when looking at my canvas I cannot help recognising that some objects inherited its fluid atmosphere from Japanese culture. I allow myself to float both in Western world and in my mother country and both in the real world and in the invisible space.
