A Man and a Woman’ (2010) is a figurative picture. It is figurative in the broadest sense – being pictorial, but it is also abstract as the figures are not life-like. The painting is begun with a simple background colour on primed canvas. Gradually marks are added and layers of paint are built up... My paintings are often figures; I have often tried to depict urban settings – and include the presence of nature. Important to my works are the Christian values in the Gospels. Poetry is inherent in the image; manipulation, texture and colour of the paint.
