“In this long term transcription based project I have looked at a variety of different traditional and historical paintings and sculptures, produced by the different masters throughout the renaissance and baroque periods . My four mains chosen paintings are: “A Woman and a Man” by Robert Campin. “ The Virgin in Prayer” by Sassoferrato, a painting by an unknown artist in a Swabian school which is exhibited at the National Gallery and “ The Lamentation over the dead Christ” by Jusepe de Ribera. These chosen paintings have been the core of my work since the very beginning of this project. Each painting that I have chosen I have intentionally dissected each individual one so that each layer becomes an isolated image. This allows me to take the drapery out of its original context in order to create a new body. This new body begins to take on human emotions that are different from the original painting, and are open to interpretation. My work has led me into printing, particularly the opportunities that it opens for reproduction and the hand made. My use of imagery can be seen many times but each time it is a different process and each new process produces a new and subtle body that can easily be overlooked. I feel that this subtle shift is important to how my work is experience and it is the core of what I strive for.
