We are delighted to invite you to a four-day celebration of historic craft taking place at Two Temple Place.
The programme includes live demonstrations, hands-on workshops and a panel discussion led by expert practitioners from City & Guilds of London Art School. Tutors and students from our Carving and Conservation departments will showcase traditional techniques in stone carving, wood carving, gilding and conservation, with opportunities for visitors of all ages to try their hand at historic craft practices. The Carving Interim Show presents an exhibition of second-year student work, offering a chance to explore contemporary carving practice in progress.

THE PYGMALION PROJECT: IS THERE LIFE IN CARVING YET?
19:00–20:30 Saturday 30 August
The event brings together CGLAS carvers Nina Bilby, Tim Crawley and Rob Postle, in conversation with art historian and Pygmalion editor Michael Paraskos. Together, they will explore how traditional carving skills are responding to the rise of new technologies, from laser-guided tools to 3D scanning, and consider both the challenges and opportunities facing hand-carving today. With initiatives such as the Carving Takeaway and the Pygmalion Project generating renewed interest in the craft, the panel asks: could we be entering a new chapter for carving?
