BA (Hons) Conservation: Books & Paper

At City & Guilds of London Art School, Conservation is the meeting-point of science and art – a fascinating blend of state-of-the-art forensics, aesthetics and traditional craft skills.

Originally established after World War II to conserve and preserve London’s bomb-damaged architectural treasures, the Conservation Department has evolved over the last 73 years and runs acclaimed BA (Hons), Graduate Diploma and MA courses in Conservation, with a very high success rate of graduates going directly into employment in the conservation sector on completing their studies with us.

Conservation of cultural objects is a complex, specialist area, that requires a deep understanding of science subjects and humanities, as well as craft and practice-based project management. From our experience of teaching conservation for more than 50 years, and from expert industry feedback, we know that in order to gain the vast amount of specialist knowledge, skills and experience you need to forge a successful career as a conservator, you are best advised to study for the full three years this intensive BA (Hons) course offers you.

Our MA course is designed for individuals who have either already completed a BA (Hons) in Conservation or for those who have worked professionally in a related field such as Collections’ Management. The MA enables students to tackle complex advanced-level projects and equips graduates for managerial roles on Conservation projects.
