PG Dip Carving

City & Guilds of London Art School is proud to offer the UK’s only Historic Carving Postgraduate Diploma, specialising in either Stone Carving or Woodcarving. Our Postgraduate Diploma may be used to facilitate a change of career from another discipline or to extend the possibilities of a current practice as a sculptor, carver or mason.

The Postgraduate Diploma Historic Carving is a 2 year course, however if you have already completed one of our Diplomas in Historic Carving or an equivalent course, entry direct to the 2nd year may be possible.

The program of study is designed to reflect your individual experience and your aspirations, therefore elements of the Diploma courses are available on an optional basis. These include ornament study, figure modelling, portrait modelling, artistic anatomy and contextual studies such as geology, art and architectural history, professional practice and an introduction to current conservation practices and ethics.

The postgraduate course is intensive and involves extended research projects that complement your individual research interests and practical experience. The course is intended to be primarily self directed and to complement your individual research interests and practical experience. A planned and agreed program or statement of intent is necessary before enrolling on the course. This course is accredited by the City & Guilds Institute.
